June Box - The perfect Crossbody Sling Bag to sew this Summer
Share
In this month's Busy Bagmaker box, we are making the Foxtail Crossbody Sling by Blue Calla Patterns. It's one of those patterns I return to time and time again as it's such a satisfying and fun bag to sew. With it's unique construction methods and cool angled design, I knew I had to share it with my Busy Bagmakers!
In June's box, I give you all the supplies to create this beautiful bag. The star of the show is this stunning "Irises" organic cotton designed by Juliana Tipton in her Honey Garden collection for Cloud 9 Fabrics. I've teamed it up with a sage green seatbelt webbing and a pop of honey yellow inside. All the interfacings, zipper tape and bronze metal hardware are also included in the box.
The Foxtail is a great all rounder kind of bag for the Summer, whether you're travelling, have a few day trips planned or walks in the sunshine - it's slim, lightweight, comfortable to wear, and keeps your items secure and your hands free.
Celine, the designer behind the pattern, shows two different ways to install zipped pockets. The curvy, front pop-out pocket has an almost 3D effect and can hold your sunglasses, tissues, phone, anything within easy reach.
Then there is a neat angled pocket on the back of the bag which can discreetly hold a phone or passport against your body.
The same zipper installation is used for the main compartment of the bag. There is minimal hardware - a simple slider buckle for the adjustable strap attached to two large statement O-rings.
The Foxtail Crossbody Sling pattern is confident-beginner friendly - in other words - it's helpful if you are familiar with using a sewing machine and an even easier sew if you are familiar with sewing zipped pouches or zipped pockets. Celine's pattern has step by step instructions with graphic illustrations and her own video tutorial in two parts to guide you. I have also made a full length video tutorial using the items from June's box.
