In this month's Busy Bagmaker box we are making The Rossatron*, one of my all-time favourite patterns designed by Sincerely Jen Patterns*.

It's one of those bags that just comes together so well and shows some clever bag making techniques along the way. It's also the perfect style for featuring a bold fabric like the one I picked out for April's box

The Rossatron pattern comes in two sizes: a handbag or tote size. In April's box I give all the supplies to make the smaller version. The main fabric is this cotton "Bloom Plume" print by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics, teamed up with a sumptuous navy faux leather. The navy and rose gold zipper tape, along with those pretty rose gold square rings, accentuates the pink hues for a pretty and professional finish. For interfacings, I went with a woven cotton interfacing and a stiff fusible fleece for added structure.

The Rossatron* is rated beginner friendly with step-by-step instructions, graphic illustrations and a full length video by Jenny.  In my own video tutorial for April's box, I give cutting suggestions to make longer handles in cotton to carry the bag on your shoulder - or you could make shorter handles in the faux leather as suggested in the pattern.

The bag has a front, full width pocket, two side pockets for keeping items like sunglasses or tissues in easy reach, and a top zip closure.

With a busy outside, I kept the bag lining plain but punchy with a bold Cherry Lipgloss pink. There is a deep zipped pocket and I also give instructions to make an extra slip pocket inside - because you can never have too many pockets!

Back in 2021, I sewed The Rossatron on my Singer Heavy Duty machine which struggled more with layers, but with a few adjustments, this pattern is very do-able on a domestic sewing machine! In my video, I give lots of tips to reduce bulk especially with the interfacings, the strap connectors and the zipped front pocket construction.

Inspired to make your own pretty bag for Spring just like this one?
